The Arenal region of Costa Rica has a history of agricultural traditions, including cacao and coffee farming. The soil and climate around Arenal Volcano are ideal for growing cacao and coffee. Costa Rica has been a leader in cacao farming since pre-Columbian times, and coffee was first planted and harvested in the late 1700s. We learn how to make the traditional Costa Rican tortillas as we went on a tour of a farm in the area and learned the traditional dances in the traditional clothes and taste Costa Rican coffee or chocolate and see the process from plant to product.
